The town of Altea sits on the Mediterranean coast and is known for its real Spanish feel, good restaurants, craft shops, and its weekly markets. It is the home of many famous Spanish and foreign artists.

There are many local places of interest to visit such as the ancient town of Guadalest, the spectacular new theme park of Terra Mitica, the new Oceanographic Centre in Valencia or the bodegas of the Jalon Valley.

The mountain range behind the town provide excellent day trips for walkers or the less active who want to just take in the cool summer air (shown opposite). In spring the fragrance and spectacle of the citrus blossom from the extensive orange and lemon groves can be viewed from special trains which run along the coast.

Day trips or longer to the Baleric Islands of Ibiza, Majorca and Menorca can be made from the small sea port of Denia only 25 minutes drive north of Altea.

The sea is just 5 minutes walk away from the house and many other beaches are easily reached within 20 minutes drive. There is a new public swimming pool which has recently opened in the town as well as a very nice 25m pool at the local tennis club, which often provides a quieter alternative.

You could always spend an evening in! The house has a fully equipped kitchen and large dining room to seat 8 or the terrace at the rear of the house is ideal for evening "sundowners" or barbeques!

For golfers there are 6 top quality courses within an hours drive of the house, including a nine hole course in Altea itself.

There are sailing, waterskiing and windsurfing opportunities both in Altea and the many neighbouring coastal towns.

The nearby town of Benidorm provides extensive night life with numerous discos and live music venues for the younger guest, as well as cabaret, variety shows and dancing for the more mature.
